I did get my haircut, and now I look like a "Sassy Mom", with it all short above my shoulders. The milk painting class I went to ended up being more of a demo, but I still learned a couple of cool things to share. I didn't make it to the Grand Opening of the New Farmers Market in Scottsdale, but I am planning another trip sometime this week. My daughter had a friend over instead, and we made, if you haven't seen it, MeatLoaf and Melodrama's Oreo Poke cake for my husband's birthday yesterday! I am super excited, because I did in fact finally finish my daughter Katelyn's IKEA Rast dresser, and she absolutely loves it! It's not perfect, but I am very happy with how it truned out!
I think I stenciled those drawers about fifty times, before I started to get the hang of it. The top two corner motifs were my best efforts. I'm going to go back, sometime this fall, and fix the others. I can honestly say, my daughter didn't really care how imperfect the designs were,
she loved it just the same.
A better look at the corner motif. Instead of working my way out stenciling, I worked my way inward, and saved the small, tiny areas for last, and barely tapping them with the paint, fighting the urge to paint, from side to side. All it needed was a light tap.

Here's Lindsay, back in January helping me put it together.
My husband said to start her young!
It really was a fun experience, from start to finish.
For the dresser, I did put several coats of primer, on first.
Followed by several coats of white gloss paint,
and finished with several coats of clear lacquer.
For the drawers and knobs, I didn't prime them, I just painted several coats of Valsper's Orange Pecan. I'd wait several hours between coats, unless you live in the dessert like me, where in 100F temperature, it only took about an hour to dry.
I stenciled the drawers and (lightly painted) the knobs with
Folk Art's Pearl White Metallic #659E, and finished them with
Mini-Wax Clear Gloss Poly Urethane.
To tell you the truth, I can't wait to make one for my room as a night stand!
Folk Art's Pearl White Metallic #659E
Valspar Paint Orange Pecan (drawers)
White gloss paint (dresser)
Clear Lacquer on outer dresser
Mini-Wax Clear Gloss Poly Urethane on drawers
Wishing you all a great week!
Until Next time!!
