Miss Kate's Tween Bedroom Makeover- #OneRoomChallenge Week 4

Happy Weekend! I hope you all had a Scaretastic Halloween!
The kids had a fun time, I'll have an update post shortly!
Sorry for being a little MIA, my husband had his wisdom teeth out
on Friday, and is on the mend! Thank you for your well wishes!

With Halloween, and his surgery, I didn't get too much done,
But,
I am happy how things are coming along!
Not to mention how much fun Katelyn is having!

Before his surgery, my husband was able to put together 5 Honeycomb shelves for
Katelyn's room, 4 Large and one smaller one. She decided she will paint them
Orange, Brown and White! I can't wait to paint and hang them
and see how everything transforms from the blank slate she is in now!

Miss Kate's Tween Bedroom Makeover #OneRoomChallenge-Week 3

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a restful weekend, or had an absolutely fun busy weekend! Whatever you did, I hope you enjoyed yourselves! As for us, I did finish a project, worked on another, but something caught ahold of me, I was sniffling and sneezing, had a scratchy throat and cough all day Sunday! Today, I feel almost back to myself, but it was so strange. I think it's the damp weather we had, coupled with my husband leaving the window open at night!
Here's a quick update on Week 3 for Ms. Kate's Tween Bedroom Makeover!
I just couldn't quite finish painting Katelyn's room, until today! This is the reason for such a late post!
You can catch up here with

Here's what it looked like before,

and here's what the new accent wall looks like.

I actually went to Lowe's and picked up Valspars, Dark Truffle. The shiny spots are where I touched it up and it was still wet! It looks more red than in real life it's more a chocolate brown color!

I call this my wall of Chocolate! It must have all been in my mind, but even the paint smelled like chocolate. Yes, you could say I have chocolate on my brain, and it has inspired me to bake something
sinfully delicious! Coming soon!

My daughter is in love with this horse quote, and somehow it will be on her wall, I just have to figure out how, or where to find a projector, so she can trace and handpaint the quote herself!

Fun Fun Fun!!

Here are a few more updates, for her comforter, we are looking at this one,
from Wayfair by Tina Truk! Katelyn is crushing on the color Orange!

and I'm thinking of buying an IKEA desk to go with her bed and dresser!

Miss Kate's Tween Bedroom Makeover #OneRoomChallenge -Week 2

Happy Day before Friday! My how the week does fly! Not only are we half way through October, but it's already Week 2 of the 6 Week One Room Challenge. Last week, I shared some inspiration that my almost thirteen year old daughter has for her room. This week, we are taking it one step further and narrowing down some of her ideas.

We both decided that she loves the color of the walls, but she wants an accent wall, where her daybed is to make it more dramatic. She really likes the color of the accent wall, we have in the Master Bedroom, since it was already painted when we moved in, I am not sure what the color is, so I picked out two colors to match it and see which one she liked the most.

                                                                 Bittersweet Chocolate
Chocolate Truffle

The choices she had to pick from were, either Benjamin Moore's Chocolate Truffle {my choice} or Bittersweet Chocolate{her choice}! We are still deciding! Either way she can't go wrong with Chocolate, she's her mother's daughter!

Next on her list were Honey Comb shelves. She still hasn't quite decided which idea she likes better;
Staggered in several bold fun colors, via Adairs

or Straight, in several ombre colors
like this one from Vintage Revivals

I'm leaning towards the ombre honeycomb, just on a smaller scale, and more shelf like.

Then also for this week, we were discussing her Chinese Lanterns that she wanted 'Cherry Blossoms', which I absolutely love the idea. This inspiration is from IKEA Hackers. She'll be painting and helping either use faux cherry blossoms, or if time permits, we can make paper cherry blossoms.

Here is how the next 4 weeks are looking like.

Week 3- Paint wall, and make Honey Comb shelves, Pick out Bedding
Week 4- Make Paper Cherry Blossoms, Find Desk, Organize Closet
Week 5- Hang Honey Comb shelves, lantern, Gallery Wall
Week 6- Final Reveal

There's a ton to do, and the pressure is on! I can tell you my daughter Kate, is a cool, get things done, kind of girl, unlike her mother, who likes to take her time! What a great team we make! =)

Have fun cheering us all on! You can find more inspiration from these very talented 'Linking Participants', and Be sure to check out the Wednesday ORC Participants!

Miss Kate's Tween Bedroom Makeover- #OneRoomChallenge Week 1

Happy Day Before Friday! With my children on Fall break this week, my daughter Katelyn and I decided to tackle re-doing her room! As some of you might remember the Orange Ikea Rast dresser makeover, know that she really does have some amazing ideas for her room. It looks more like I'll be assisting her in decorating her room! We want to thank Linda at Calling it Home for organizing the One Room Challenge, giving us the fun inspiration to tackle this project!

This is what her room looks like now!

Since we just moved in before Summer, it's like a blank canvas for us.
I know she wants to paint her room, so this will be fun for her to decide which color she likes best!
Here is her list of what she'd like to see done in her room.
  • She is crazy about horses.
  • She needs a desk.
  • In her closet she's really wanting to have some fun storage containers for her art supplies.
  • She also loves the idea of honey comb shelves.
  • One thing, she's been obsessed with is having a Chinese lantern for lighting!
  • New paint, most likely. It will be a surprise to me which color though!
Here are a few pictures for inspiration.

I couldn't resist the chandelier.
